The Merrick Jewish Centre is deeply committed to enriching each congregant’s personal Jewish journey through the religious, educational and social opportunities provided by our egalitarian, inclusive and welcoming Jewish community.
Founded in 1929, The Merrick Jewish Centre – Congregation Ohr Torah – is the oldest congregation in the Merrick – Bellmore community. We are an egalitarian synagogue where men and women may choose to participate in every aspect of Jewish tradition and ritual observance. We are a place where family and friends come together to celebrate simchas, and to find comfort in times of sorrow and need.
We are deeply committed to engaging our children in the religious and social life of our synagogue, enabling them to discover, strengthen, enjoy and take pride in their Jewish identities. The Merrick Jewish Centre – proud of our past, looking forward to a bright future.

The Merrick Jewish Centre is deeply committed to enriching each congregant's personal Jewish journey through the religious, educational and social opportunities provided by our egalitarian, inclusive and welcoming Jewish community.
We welcome all who are interested in deepening their connection with Jewish tradition and practices in a supportive and engaging learning environment. We respect, value, and embrace the unique differences of our community. We are enriched by the inclusion of people from different races, ethnicities, socioeconomic status, political views, religious backgrounds, national origin, abilities, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.
We believe a central pillar of Judaism is that each person is created "b'Tzelem Elohim," in the image of God, and all who participate in our community are celebrated as unique and sacred beings.
