Michelle was born and raised in Brooklyn where she helped run her family’s gas station from age 14 until graduation from nursing school. Michelle and her husband Jon live in East Meadow. They have been active members of MJC since 2013 and are Shabbat regulars.
She has been involved in several committees including Long Range Planning, Security Committee, Nominating Committee and is currently Chair of Lifelong Learning Committee, which has seen a very active, successful resurgence and which offers a variety of Jewish and secular learning opportunities to MJC multigenerational adult members. Michelle also founded the Medical Emergency Response Team. She and Jon donated medical equipment and established medical and communications protocols to care for congregants and guests to the MJC in the event of medical emergency.
After graduation from Kings County School of Nursing in 1977 Michelle enjoyed a 20+-year career as Emergency Department registered nurse, manager and trauma nurse instructor in Brooklyn and Queens. Since 1998 she has held progressive hospital management positions in areas of Quality Management and Risk Management at Southside Hospital and St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center until the hospital’s closing in 2007. Michelle then spent five years as a medical malpractice and patient safety consultant with several top academic medical centers, with primary responsibility to Johns Hopkins Medicine and affiliated medical centers in Baltimore, Washington DC and Florida. In between working full time and raising a family, Michelle obtained a BS in Health & Society from SUNY Old Westbury and an MBA from Dowling College. Michelle is also a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). In December 2014 Michelle celebrated her adult B’nai Mitzvah following a year of study at MJC.
Currently, Michelle is Vice President for Quality, Patient Safety & Regulatory Affairs at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown NY, a member hospital of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
In the little spare time she has, Michelle enjoys reading, cooking, spending time with Jon and their Irish Wolfhound Scottie, friends, and daughters Rachel and Jillian.
